Increased urbanization has caused an increase in nuisance animals in the urban environment.  When animals like squirrels enter attics and chew electrical wires or telephone wire they become a real problem.

At the Pest Shop, Inc. in Plano we can help you in either of 2 ways regarding animal traps.  If you want to save you money, you can come into the store and we will rent or sell you a trap and sell you specific bait to catch your target animal.  Most animal traps rent for a two week period and you get free consultation based on my 20 years of field experience.  All of our animal traps are humane live trap type.

Should you not want to tackle the job yourself, I or my associates can trap them for you.  Please call the office at 972-519-0355 for a quote.

The most common types of animal control traps are as follows:

Type of pest Animal Trap Size
Rats 16" X 5" X 5"
Squirrels 19" X 6" X 6"
20" X 7" X 7"
24" X 6" X 6" double entry
Rabbits, cats, opossums and skunks 26" X 9" X 9"
Raccoons 32" X 10" X 12"
Armadillos 48" X 10" X 12"

The best feature on these traps is that the rear door slides up and down to help in the baiting of the trap as well as the release of the animal.

What do I bait the Animal Trap with?

Just because you put an animal trap out does not mean that the animal will go in it.  By using an attractive bait, we can often times lure him into the trap.  The most common animal pest is the tree squirrel.  As an animal trapper, I soon found out that peanut butter was not working most of the time.  After 5 years of a lot of trial and error formulations, I came up with 2 different formulations that really catches squirrels fast.   Formula #1 is "Pecan Surprise", a very nutty odor in a paste base that is good in hot as well as cold weather.  Formula #2 is a sweet odor "Loganberry Delight". The quickest I have caught a squirrel has been in 30 minutes after setting the trap.  Both of these products are sold in a large 6 oz. container that will stay fresh for a very long time.

Be Humane to Trapped Animals.

Humane treatment to all animals you catch is very important.  Please check with your local animal control department to see if any local laws apply to your target pest animal.
